Amy Suto, a former TV writer, runs a Substack called Make Writing Your Job.
Her interviews and writing advice are free
Paying $19 a month gets you her hand-picked writing jobs, grants and pitch calls.
So the free stuff brings readers in, and the shortlist is what they pay for.
By July that added up to 1,900+ paid subscribers and $267K a year in revenue

It took her three years to build an audience that size, with a big TikTok following and a busy blog feeding it.
Pick something people in one field waste hours hunting for, and sell them the shortlist.
Maybe…
- Grants for indie game devs
- Casting calls for voice actors
- Open calls for photographers
